Where Does Tho Get Cakes in Hanoi?

Part 2 of this post in Vietnamese can be found here. I will make English post asap.

As I stated in my “About Me” page, I’m a hopeless sweet tooth. Although I often receive questions about cakes, I have not really made any “official” post about this lust. (Yes, it is Temptation, Lust).

Recently, I recommended for a sweet tooth like me some bakeries in Hanoi which I specially like. Eventually, I think posting the list will be helpful 🙂

* My favorite bakeries, in no particular order
1. O’DOUCEURS, 91A Tran Hung Dao, Hoan Kiem District.

My English review

2. PATISSERIE LAPIN, 25C Tran Duy Hung, Cau Giay District.
Their Facebook page:
My English review about this bakery 😉 Pastry chef is from Korea.

3. CHEZ MOI, opposite with no 19, Ngo Hang Chao, Dong Da District.
My English review (1) and part (2)

4. PIZZA ONG TAY, 3 Le Van Luong, Cau Giay District
Their Facebook page:
I especially love their cute animals cakes and mousses! Bear (chocolate), frog (green tea), pink pig (strawberry), white sheep (not sure, but I think it is mascarpone cheese). They also have choux, chocolate lava cake, other type of cakes; for savory taste, you can try pizza and homemade tagliatelle pasta 🙂

5. JAMỨT, 3 Quan Ngua, Ba Dinh District
Japanese handmade cake. Online shop and Take-away only, Not a Cafe.
I personally see Japanese-style cakes are more airy, light, and less sweet than traditional Western style.
The owner, a Japanese woman, only uses natural ingredients, and no preservation. I like their shou-ice (choux with ice cream filling), and cheesecake (rich and heavy, still not too sweet). She also makes fruit jams. Before she only sold cakes for Japanese via online method.

6. I.SWEETS, To Ngoc Van, Tay Ho District [CLOSED]

[ONLINE SHOP] MACARONS! ~ Their Facebook page:

From I.Sweets’s Facebook Page

This brand has many shops around Hanoi. Japanese style, supervised by Mr. Tesuya Suzuki.
List of their shops:
Some pictures I took before:

8. ICY CAKE, 2F Quang Trung, Hoan Kiem District

My English review, the shop is closed now.
They are specialized in cake orders for events (for example: weddings), lots of amazing ones, you can check their website here:

9. THE ADELAIDE – Online Shop
No.4, alley 6, Doi Nhan street (end of Doi Can street)
I specially like her red velvet cake. Other kinds: passion fruit mousse, “bong lan trung muoi” (salted egg sponge roll cake), pizza, and cake order.

10. – Online Shop
Cake order, cookies, thumbprint cookies, roll cakes, biscotti, cat-tongue cookies…
A friend of mine ordered her cookies few times. I was impressed with thumbprint cookies n biscotti 🙂

3 flavors: tropical fruits, chocolate and red beans; and an old flavor I had last time – blueberry yogurt. My favorite this time is red beans, then chocolate. Tropical fruit needs improvement. Decoration of Chocolate Extreme is quite sophisticated. Only 1 flavor left that I haven't tried: Pistachio!!! #ledessertme #eclair #choux #pastry #delivery #onlinebakery #tholovesfood #sweettooth #dessert #fruity #tropical #tropicalfruit #chocolate #redbean #blueberry #yogurt #sweet #likesforlikes #followforfollow #instagood #instamood #wordvietnam #timeoutvietnam #munchies

11. ANH TU SHOP, number 150, Xa Dan 2 alley, Dong Da District
This shop is more into large quantity sale, especially cookies and pizza crust, for many cafes and small pizza shops in Hanoi 🙂 The owner, Anh Tu, also has baking classes and sells baking tools/ingredients, too.
I know about this shop after helping my cousin taking 2kg of cookies for Tet holiday (Lunar New Year). Cookies are really good! (。♥‿♥。)

Update in 2017: He started making yummy cakes by order through his personal facebook Check them out!

Facebook page – the shop:

12. NYAHAHA – Online Shop
My friend is the owner. She makes cookies, muffins, pound cakes, and takes cake order. Japanese-style of baking 🙂
Facebook page:

13. ALAFOILE BAKERY n CAFE – it located inside My Dinh 1 urban area, Tu Liem district.
Location is a bit far from center but not too bad from my house. I accidentally found it when I was wandering around that area. They have goooood breads, and cakes

Facebook page:

Update in 2017: Alafolie opens its 2nd shop in Tay Ho area! I feel awesome because I just move far away from their 1st shop, and the location of 2nd one is near my new house. Perfecto! Facebook of Alafolie in West Lake area Address is 225 Au Co, Tay Ho district.

Baking classes from a chef of JW Marriot. He also takes cake order.
Actually, I have not experienced any baking class here but my lust with cakes at JW Marriot tells me that I should add this in my list.

My Review
I mainly comes here for Yogurt, and Lemon Tart! Their cakes are very old-schooled I think. Nothing is fancy, but they are good, somehow 🙂

I will add more in the future if I find something’s good 🙂 Hopefully this list will be longer!

P.S: My all time favorite dessert, Chocolate Earl Grey and Dark Chocolate Truffle Tart at DALUVA (updated that Daluva changed owner in 2017 and I haven’t visited it since end of 2016)

  1. Hello Tho,
Thanks for liking my post ‘Hanoi Again’ on 10000 Miles & More.
I thought I should check out your blog, but having read this post, I really wish I hadn’t: all these lovely cake shops that I would love to sample but can’t because I’m thousands of miles away! Still, maybe one day I’ll return to Hanoi – and now I know some of the best places to get cake Thanks Tho!
